Our Work
From raw records to informed choices
From rigorous claim validation to user-friendly knowledge and information products, our multifaceted work enlightens and enables informed choices. Through our dedicated data journalism and fact-checking teams, we strive to make factual information accessible and understandable. Factly LABS, our technology wing, democratizes data & information access with cutting-edge technology & AI-powered products.
At the heart of Factly Labs lies innovation. From clean, ready-to-use datasets on Dataful to AI-powered research on Tagore AI and data intelligence on GoPie, our products turn complex public data into answers anyone can use.
Through our data journalism, we aim to bridge the gap between public policy and the people it is meant for. The data stories that the newsroom produces bring important data into the public discourse. This is done by probing the data angle in issues of public importance by analysing credible government data sources like the Census and the Reserve Bank of India.
The Newsroom produces periodic content such as a weekly review of court judgments and a fortnightly government data roundup, and also timely stories relating to issues that are in the ongoing news cycle. The majority of this content appears as articles on our website, but the team has also made inroads into social media, with a data snapshot series called Data Byte and short, vertical videos dedicated to sharing data trends.
Our fact-checking vertical scours the internet, particularly social media platforms, for viral posts and claims about topics ranging from politics to religion to the supernatural. The resultant fact-check article delves into the claim, the tools Factly used to fact-check it, and our final verdict on whether the post is true, false, or misleading. The same is reflective on social media platforms, where fake/misleading posts are labelled as such after our fact-checks.
By doing this, we enable our readers to do some fact-checking themselves using easily accessible tools like keyword and reverse image searches, by which they can realise how simple the process can be. Our fact-checks are in English, Telugu, and Kannada.
Our data journalism and fact-check efforts find a natural extension in our audio-visual production. The Production team is responsible for all the video and podcast content under the Factly banner. This includes the flagship YouTube series, Decode, which explains policies and procedures related to India; short fact-checking videos in English and Telugu; short, vertical videos on misinformation, public policy, and institutions; and Un-Viral, a limited podcast on health misinformation.
The production team also undertakes graphic design work for the products produced and handled by other teams, including logos, icons, and templates in which to share information on our social media accounts.
Communications & Outreach makes for a separate wing that works in tandem with the Production team. This vertical runs our social media channels and is the liaison between Factly and external collaborators.
